Volume Calculation - Drum Formula - Feedwater Tank

To calculate losses in an isolated water/steam cycle it is necessary to calculate the volume change out of the level difference, and then find the mass flow. Most drums, hotwells, feedwater-tanks, deaerator tanks and other tanks have cylindrical shape with ellipsoidal ends.

Drum Level and Volume

The drum tank volume formula is

V = Vs + 2Ve     (1)

Vs = L · R2 · [α - sin(α)cos(α)]     (2)

2Ve = A/R · π/3 · H2 · [3R - H]     (3)

All are inner dimensions.
R/A are usually 2:1 ellipsoidal ends.
Angle α is needed in rad; α [rad] = α [deg] · π / 180 [deg]
